Before & After School Care

HOOSHC offers care for school-aged children before and after school throughout the school terms and on pupil free days which are based on the HCPS schedule. Activities include art and craft, cooking, construction, indoor and outdoor games, sports, music and relaxation. We also cater breakfast in the mornings and afternoon tea with a fruit platter a variety of other food options each day, with water being readily available.

Before and After School Care

The program is developed in consultation with children, Educators and families, underpinned by the NQF for school age children ‘My Time, Our Place’. Educators critically reflect on children’s engagement with activities to ensure the program is stimulating and engaging and enhances children’s learning and development. The program can be viewed at any time.

HOOSHC has a Sensory Safe Space (SSS) designated for children who need the area to decompress from their busy day, in particular children with additional needs. We also have a Primary area (Years 4, 5 & 6), where children can go to engage in age-appropriate activities and have their own space away from younger children. Both areas are utilised by children when an Educator is present.

Our Day

Before School Care begins

At 7.00am

Before School Care begins at 7.00am. A parent or an adult must bring children to the Centre and sign them in for each day of attendance. Children can order a light Breakfast in the form of toast, with a choice of toppings, or a cereal with milk, until 8.30am. If the temperature at 7.30am is 5C or less, Hot Chocolate is prepared as a warming treat. Planned and free play activities based around the children’s suggestions and interests, and the Framework “My Time, Our Place”, are available in the Foyer until children in Yrs 3 – 6 are permitted to move into the Hall area for active play at 8.05am. Infants children may do the same from 8.15am. HOOSHC continues until the Infants children attending Henschke CPS leave to walk to the school playground. Children in Years 3 to 6 are permitted to leave for school from 8.30am when the playground has teacher supervision. Children attending schools other than Henschke CPS are walked to bus stops by Educators at scheduled bus departure times.

After School Care operates

From 3.15pm until 6.00pm

After School Care operates from 3.15pm until 6.00pm. Students are signed in at the Hall by Educators as they arrive, either from their classrooms or by bus from a number of schools within the Wagga Wagga district. Following a brief meeting, Afternoon Tea is served at approximately 3.35pm, with an emphasis on providing a balanced selection of sweet and savoury snacks. Platters of in-season fruits are available as an alternative or children may have food supplied by parents/carers from their bags. HOOSHC is supportive of special dietary requirements for children. A written document from a Doctor or Dietician detailing allergies or intolerances should be provided at the time of enrolment or as circumstances require.

HOOSHC is licenced to care for children

HOOSHC is licenced to care for children until 6.00 pm. If Parents/guardians collect children after this time they will be required to pay a late fee, as per HOOSHC policy.
